Square Enix have announced that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Marvel’s Avengers alongside the game’s new Hawkeye DLC will be released on March 18, 2021.
The game was originally planned for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S alongside the launch of the new consoles. Three weeks before those consoles hit shelves, Crystal Dynamics delayed the next-gen versions indefinitely.
According to Square Enix the current-gen console versions will feature “upgraded visuals and frame rate, significantly faster load times, improved destruction and Heroic detail”.
Hawkeye is the latest inclusion to the team as a playable character in the “Future Imperfect” operation which features a dog, time travel, and The Kree, an extraterrestrial race from Marvel lore.
The arrow specialist can use all sorts of arrows, but also comes with a katana that is very similar to the blade sported by the character in Avengers: Endgame.
During a livestream last September, Developer Crystal Dynamics hinted that Black Panther would be a playable character but altered plans out of respect for Chadwick Boseman who portrayed T’Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and tragically passed away last year following complications from colon cancer.
Down the line, more characters are en route as Spider-Man will also join the team but only on PlayStation. It seems even Earth’s Mightiest Heroes apparently can’t defeat the most insidious villain of them all: console-exclusive DLC.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S users won’t have to wait long to finally get their hands on earth’s mightiest heroes. Come March 18, Marvel’s Avengers will finally be available on 4K for PS5, Xbox Series X and 1440p on Xbox Series S.
Additionally, Square Enix have also stated that players moving from PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S will be able to upgrade free of charge.
