Arisukwu’s popular slice of life cartoons have gained a cult following and will join the likes of The Boondocks and Harley Quinn on HBO Max
An animated series based on the popular Instagram cartoons by Nigerian-American artist Obi Arisukwu has been put in development by WarnerMedia.
The new series is expected to join the growing lineup of quality adult animated content available from HBO Max that includes hit DC show Harley Quinn, pop cultural phenomenon The Boondocks and Clone High a remake of the 2002 hit about cloned historical figures.
OBI is about a 30-year-old man-child chasing his dream to become an artist while navigating adulthood with his friends. It is an adaptation of Obi Arisukwu’s popular Instagram comic strip and is co-created by Obi Arisukwu and Arthur Harris (The Last OG). It will be produced by Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, Michael Schreiber for Studio71, and David Devries.
Arisukwu was very emotional and expressed deep gratitude in his reaction to the news, “Seeing my show on this list just brought me to tears,” he tweeted “Man, God is good.”
Joining OBI in HBO Max’s new class of animated originals in development will be a few other projects from celebrated artists and writers.

About Obi Arisukwu
This series will be based on the life of popular Nigerian-American illustrator and cartoonist Obi Arisukwu who is no stranger to animation as quite a number of his Instagram posts are his animated comic content.
Obi Arisukwu has been creating comics for years. The self proclaimed superhero geek, who hails from Houston, Texas knew he wanted to be an artist since the age of 3.
In 2013, when Arisukwu saw other artists sharing their work on Instagram, he began to do the same. In 2017, he began pursuing art full time, and this announcement vindicates that bold decision.
