According to Deadline’s sources, Chris Evans is reportedly dusting off his Captain America suit as he might reprise his most famous role. It has not been confirmed if the star will return as a main character or have a major guest appearance similar to Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark/Iron Man role in Spider-Man Homecoming.
Deadline states that the deal has not been closed, but insiders say it’s headed in the direction for Evans to return as Steve Rogers aka Captain America in at least one Marvel property with the door open for a possible second movie.
Chris Evans has been very public about hanging up his cape—or in this case—shield, with Marvel making it clear in Avengers: Endgame that his character’s journey as the Captain had ended and a new character could bear the torch. “It’s not a hard no,” Evans explained in May last year, “But it’s not an eager yes either. I think Cap had such a tricky act to stick the landing, and I think they did a really nice job letting him complete his journey.”
But new developments have risen in recent months with Evans expressing interest in returning. The deal would possibly see the star return for at least one or two projects. Marvel has not yet commented on the report.
Captain America’s return would definitely be a welcome though tricky one as his last appearance was as an old man with his superheroing past behind him. But considering the fact that time travel is an established part of the MCU, it is very possible that we might get the Cap that we all know and love back.
We could even see him appear by fantastical means, as Doctor Strange 2 is seemingly going to deal with the multiverse.
Whichever way he arrives, it’s safe to say that the return of Cap will be greatly cherished by MCU fans the world over.
