Deadpool 3 is coming!

YES! This is happening.

The only man in Hollywood who can do no wrong, Ryan Reynolds (until Deadpool releases his sex tape) is one of several sources to confirm that there would be another movie in this franchise, and I am so excited about this. This is what we know so far.

WHEN IS IT?

There is no date set for its release. There isn’t even a date set for when filming will start, however Reynolds previously explained that working on these movies takes time, so we might need to wait a bit for this one. With the Disney/Fox merger, some were afraid it would be the end of the beloved and treasured character on the big screen, but we have assurances from Ryan himself it will be happening. Phase 4 movies were announced in August this year at Comic-Con, and there was no mention of Deadpool, so it is speculated that it would be part of the Phase 5 lineup, which starts in 2022.

WHO IS IN IT?

The only person we are sure would be in this movie is Ryan Reynolds, as he continues to play the main character. In an interview with Lorraine Kelly, Reynolds said, “It’s the role I feel most honored to play in my entire career. I feel like I was born for it. I love Deadpool.” I cannot even think of anyone else occupying this role. Even when he is playing a non-Deadpool role, like in the Shaw and Hobbs movie, there still seemed to be some Deadpool about him. The day Ryan has an argument with the producers, and they refuse to pay him the money he is insisting on, that is the day that Deadpool dies, the way when Wolverine died at the end of Logan, we all made our peace with the fact that we would never see a movie with Wolverine again. Speaking of the bearded, clawed one, Reynolds hinted at the fact that Jackman could reprise his role as Wolverine. That would be just perfect, as these two have such a comedic relationship offscreen with lots of bants, so I say yes, please put them together.

We met a host of new characters in Deadpool 2, but the ones I feel/want to be in this movie would be Cable (Josh Brolin), Colossus (Stefan Kapicic), and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand). They might constitute the X-Force, but we will just have to wait and see.

WHAT’S THE STORYLINE?

We do not know for sure yet. If you are sensing a pattern here, you wouldn’t be wrong, because it is still very early days, and there isn’t a lot of information available to us at the moment. The little we know, again comes from Mr. Pool himself: “I feel like the character, in order for him to function properly within his own universe, you need to strip him of everything. I do not think you can keep doing that.” This suggests a departure from the type of storylines we saw in the first two movies when he had to overcome some loss or misfortune, so we will see what direction this goes in. Reynolds even teased that the movie is looking to go in a completely different direction, with rumors that time travel might be involved, or a story involving Cable could even be tabled.

THE R-RATING

There has been some ambiguity about this, especially since Disney is running things now, and because of their younger audience, they might be reluctant to show something that would be unsuitable for minors (if only they knew what these so-called minors watch these days). However Marvel boss, Kevin Feige said, “There is no question that Deadpool (in its present format) is working, so why change it?” I hope they do not tamper with the look of this movie, because it has become the identity of this character, and indeed the franchise.

So, there you have it, this is what we know about the movie so far, and even though we do have a long wait ahead of us, I look forward to seeing what I hope would be another great movie. Quite frankly, I think I could watch Deadpool until the 10th instalment if they keep on making them – as long as Ryan Reynolds is in them.
