Alita : Battle Angel
Directed by : Robert Rodriguez
Release Date: February 13, 2019

Alita: Battle Angel is an adaptation of Yukito Kishiro manga series Gunnm and, as expected of a film produced by James Cameron (Avatar) and directed by Roberto Rodriguez (Sin City), it was always going to feature ground-breaking CGI and action sequences that would leave your jaw on the floor.

Several scenes will have you questioning if you’re watching something animated or real. The photorealism and level of detail was just amazing!

The fight scenes were mind blowing, but let’s not talk about those because I want to get particular about Alita’s “skin”.

The look of her skin was just so photorealistic, you could almost feel the texture from the screen. Weta Digital, the Academy Award winning VFX company that handled animation for movies like Avatar and Lord of the Rings, outdid themselves this time around.

And Alita’s eyes! I hear that the pixel count in her eyes delivers over 100x more detail than was in the entire body of Gollum (Lord of the Rings). I hope I am not speaking prematurely but I see an Oscar coming their way for this movie because I cant see how any film can beat this level of detail and realism.

If you want to go see Alita: Battle Angel, I suggest you go see it in IMAX because that’s the best way to appreciate it because we are all here for the CGI and not the (unsurprisingly) shallow plot.
