Four months ago Hulu passed on the pilot of Locke & Key – an adaptation of Joe Hill’s comic-book from the IDW stable. After being shopped to Amazon, Apple and just about everyone, the Locke & Key team struck a deal for a 10-episode series with Hulu’s rival Netflix. This news marks the end of a long road to the screen for the horror/fantasy comic-book series from IDW Publishing.
However, as previously reported by Deadline, Netflix is not picking up the existing Hulu pilot, but is re-casting the actors with the exception of It co-star Jackson Robert Scott and redeveloping the series. Carlton Cuse and Joe Hill will be joined by producers Aron Eli Coleite (Heroes, Star Trek Discovery) and Meredith Averill (The Good Wife) with Hill and Coleite writing the first episode and Cuse sharing showrunning duties with Averill.
Locke & Key, written by Hill, is a horror/fantasy series centered on three siblings who, after the murder of their father, return to their familial home in Massachusetts and discover magical keys that grant them great powers and abilities. Unfortunately, with great power comes great… sorry, wrong comic-book. Unfortunately those powers are coveted by evil forces they must learn to understand and face together.
